The Best Wedding Dance Song of 2016
As an experienced wedding DJ, I always want to know what will be the next big hit song to play at weddings.
Sometimes a hit song takes time before everyone knows about it and other times a song will be become a phenomenon overnight.
Last year the most popular wedding dance song (for me at least) was "Uptown Funk" by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars.
This year the crown for best wedding dance song goes to the one and only Justin Timberlake and his worldwide chart topping song "Can't Stop The Feeling."
The song was released back in early May and immediately became a globally recognized dance floor hit.
As a Los Angeles wedding DJ I must admit the timing of the release of the song couldn't have been better.
It literally got released at the start of wedding season here in Southern California.
I personally have been playing it at every wedding that I've done since it got released and the response has been amazing.
In the past 2 months I've played it not only at weddings in Los Angeles (at wedding venues like Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, Gerry Ranch in Camarillo, The Vineyards in Simi Valley, Bacara Resort in Santa Barbara) but also at bars & lounges that I play at (like The Basement Tavern in Santa Monica and Brendan's in Newbury Park).
It's my go to jam to really take the crowd to the next level and bring the energy as high as it can get.
About The Song
The cool thing about the song is that it was recorded for an upcoming animated movie called Trolls (which coincidentally stars Justin Timberlake himself).
The movie doesn't even get released until November.
The single debuted atop the US Billboard Hot 100, for the chart issue dated May 28, 2016, marking Timberlake's fifth No. 1 single in the country, and making it the 26th song on the Hot 100 history to start at the summit of the chart.
Additionally, it became the first single to log its first nine weeks atop the Digital Songs chart since The Black Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Feeling" in 2009, and became his fifth number-one single on the Radio Songs chart and eighth on the Mainstream Top 40.
It has achieved international commercial success, reaching the top of the charts in Argentina, Belgium (Flanders), Canada, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Israel, Mexico, Russia, Scotland, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Sweden and Switzerland, and the top-five in most of Europe.
Writers from Billboard, Rolling Stone, Fuse and USA Today highlighted its attractiveness for the summer season.
Adelle Platon from Billboard called it "delightful" and a "feel-good jam." Nate Chinen from The New York Times wrote "Timberlake is on firm footing here, gliding over a disco-pop beat and urging all comers to catch the spirit."
Jon Niles from Music Times wrote: "The song gives off a feeling of pure joy that only a talent as great as Timberlake could bring to the table."
For Lisa Respers France of CNN Entertainment, "If Friday had a sound, it would be Justin Timberlake's "Can't Stop the Feeling!"."
Ed Masley wrote in AZCentral "the lyrics sound like they were custom-made to be the soundtrack to your favorite summer memories."
For the A.V. Club, Annie Zaleski wrote "a perfect summer song is one I can blast while driving in the car with the windows down. The tune doesn’t have to be meaningful—in fact, the more lightweight, the better—and it should offer a few minutes of unadulterated escapism. This year, I can already tell that “Can’t Stop The Feeling!” is my hot-weather jam."
